Crossing into Depth
Imagine moving beyond the surface of memorization and entering a world where meanings unfold, arguments connect, and knowledge comes alive. At this stage, your learning becomes deeper and more dynamic, preparing you not just to recite, but to understand, reflect, and apply. The Intermediate Programme is the bridge between foundations and mastery; the point where your journey begins to feel truly transformative.
Overview
The I‘dādiyyah at the Institute is a two-year intermediate program that serves as a vital bridge between foundational learning and advanced Islamic and Arabic studies. This stage transitions students from a memorization-centred approach to a more meaningful engagement with texts, emphasizing critical thinking, deeper understanding, and applied knowledge.
Students are trained to interact with much of what they previously memorized, analyzing its meanings and practical implications, thus transforming knowledge into comprehension and insight.
As students progress, the curriculum becomes more dynamic and intellectually stimulating, preparing them for the rigors of higher academic and religious studies
Objective
- To transform memorization into meaningful understanding.
- To cultivate confident Arabic expression.
- To deepen grasp of Islamic beliefs and practices.
- To sharpen analytical and reflective thinking.
- To prepare for higher Islamic scholarship and leadership.
Focus
Arabic Grammar: Nahw & Ṣarf
Though still foundational, students delve deeper into syntax (I‘rāb) and morphology (Taṣrīf), laying the groundwork for future mastery.
Arabic Expression (Ta‘bīr)
Training intensifies through structured conversations, guided exercises, and essay writing, with a strong emphasis on oral fluency and self-expression in Arabic.
Tafsīr (Qur’anic Exegesis)
A detailed study of Juz’ ‘Amma, combining linguistic analysis with spiritual reflection, fulfilling the Tafsīr requirement for this level.
Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence)
The fiqh at this level centered strictly on the Maliki madhhab, using the classic text Matn al-Ashmawiyyah, which students will memorize and study with explanation.
Tawheed (Islamic Creed)
Tawheed is a core subject taught with depth and seriousness. Students will memorize the poetic text “Sullam al-Wusūl” in the first year and explore its meanings and commentary in the second year.
Hadith Studies
A number of selected hadiths from ‘Umdat al-Aḥkām will be covered, focusing on legal implications while avoiding overly technical breakdowns, providing students with a working understanding of applicable Sunnah.
Non-Classroom Activities
This level introduces students to more extra-curricular engagements, such as debates, presentations, group projects, and recitation forums, further reinforcing learning through active participation.
Duration
The duration of the program is 2 years.
Admission Requirements
- Have successfully completed the Basic Level (Al-Marḥalah Al-Asāsiyyah) of the Institute or an equivalent program.
- Demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing Arabic; students still struggling with these skills will not be admitted.
- Students from traditional Islamic schools (Maḥādīr) may also be considered, provided they can demonstrate prior tutelage and familiarity with classical Islamic texts.
Graduation Requirements
At the completion of the I‘dādiyyah Program, students will participate in a mandatory graduation ceremony, granted they meet the following:
- Fulfilment of all academic and memorization requirements.
- Full payment of applicable fees.
- Compliance with graduation dress code (uniformed attire).
- General discipline and participation in final-year activities.
